En España, el underwater arqueológico incluye bienes y restos que puedan estudiarse con metodología arqueológica, también cuando están bajo aguas territoriales. Las prospecciones y excavaciones arqueológicas subacuáticas deben contar con autorización expresa y previa de la Administración competente.
Nautilus no promueve la búsqueda de tesoros, el expolio, la extracción de objetos ni la intervención en yacimientos. Un hallazgo casual debe comunicarse a la autoridad competente; cualquier trabajo sobre un pecio debe hacerse con permissions, metodología arqueológica y traceability.
